What Signum is
A search engine with its own index, run from your own machine.
Signum keeps its index, its account service, and its small package store separate. Your settings sit on this device unless you move them into an encrypted account yourself. Nothing is pulled from Google or Bing in the background.
Build status
The account host and Store tools are runnable source components. The independent search core still requires the actual Signum compiler, standard-library mapping, and SBN codec. This interface does not manufacture search results when those components are unavailable.
What’s new
- October 2026 — Phase B semantic search. Transformer embeddings (
@cf/baai/bge-small-en-v1.5) blended with Phase A TF-IDF and the lexical index through Reciprocal Rank Fusion. The desktop build bundles the ONNX model locally so queries never leave your machine. - Chrome DevTools MCP integration. Interactive audit of every page while developing — console errors, network traces, accessibility checks, and layout probes drive the fix cycle.
- Signum apps menu, query tools, and inline Lens/voice. Chromium’s New Tab patterns, ported but ours: waffle picker, operator snippets, Workers AI vision, Web Speech voice.
- Settings rebuild. SVG category icons, flat list rows for homogeneous actions, Material 3-style sidebar with keyboard navigation.
